Our services
Locating underground services with radar & mapping them to the drawing you need, plus 3D scanning of large structures.
GPR scanning, mapping & reports
We locate underground services using ground penetrating radar (GPR) & electromagnetic locating. Positions, depths & where possible types of service are marked on the ground. Larger sites are mapped with sub-centimetre GPS & delivered as PDF & DWG drawings. Smaller sites get a written report with photos of the markings to keep unnecessary costs down.

3D LiDAR scanning
Using LiDAR scanning equipment, HD GPR creates highly accurate point clouds of large objects. The point clouds are delivered as .LAS files, a format that engineers & architects commonly use.

Common questions
What is ground penetrating radar?
GPR is a geophysical method that uses radar pulses to image the subsurface. It sends electromagnetic pulses in the microwave band of the radio spectrum into the ground & detects the signals reflected from the surfaces below. It is non-destructive.
Can GPR tell me what an underground service is?
No. GPR detects a difference in density in the soil, not what the service is. That is why we scan using both GPR & electromagnetic locating equipment, which helps with thin live electrical cables & tracing services to their corresponding furniture above ground where possible.
What is electromagnetic locating (EML)?
EML equipment detects the electromagnetic field around metallic pipes, cables & other conductive services. Live electrical cables give off their own signal, which can be picked up directly. Other metallic services can be traced by applying a signal to them, either by connecting a transmitter or inducing one from the surface. This helps us find thin cables that GPR can miss & trace services to their furniture above ground, such as manholes, valves & junction boxes. EML only finds metallic or conductive services, which is why we use it together with GPR.
Do LiDAR scans look like the real thing?
No. A LiDAR scan is a point cloud made from millions of reflected beams of light. The points can be coloured to make viewing easier, but the result will not look like a photo. Professionals use it to measure large objects accurately.
